For silk use the silk setting with a thin cotton cloth between iron and saree, and never touch the zari directly with the iron — the coating dulls and can melt. For a Jamdani, iron only from the back so the sole plate does not catch the motif threads, and lift rather than drag over the figures.

Fold the saree along its length as you go and iron the pleats last; a steam iron helps cotton and is safe on silk at a distance. Let it cool flat before folding away, or the creases set.
