Why saree prices differ so much
দাম ঠিক করে পাঁচটা জিনিস: হাতের তাঁত না পাওয়ারলুম, সুতা কত মিহি (কাউন্ট), নকশা কত ঘন, জরি আসল না টেস্টেড, আর বুনতে কত দিন লেগেছে। দুটো শাড়ি তুলনা করতে হলে এই পাঁচটা মিলিয়ে দেখুন — শুধু নাম দেখে নয়।
Loom· তাঁত
Handloom takes a weaver's days; powerloom takes a machine's hours. Two sarees that look alike from across a room can differ several times in price on this alone. Turn the cloth over and look for the hand — see the Jamdani guide.
Yarn· সুতা
Cotton is graded by count: a higher count is a finer, lighter, more expensive thread. Silk is graded by purity and by whether it is mulberry, tussar or a blend. The label "silk" alone says little; ask which.
Work· কাজ
Density of motifs, embroidery, and the size of the pallu design all add hours. A Jamdani with motifs every few centimetres is a different object from one with a scattered buti.
Zari· জরি
Real zari (silver-gilt thread) is priced by weight and does not tarnish quickly; tested zari (copper-based) looks the same on the day and costs a fraction. Neither is wrong — they are different products at different prices, and the shop should say which it is.

Compare loom to loom, count to count, work to work. Then look at the live price on each piece in the catalogue — the price bands on every category page are read from what is actually in the shop.

দামি শাড়ি মানেই কি ভালো? · Is the expensive saree always better?
It is usually more work, not always more suitable. A fine cotton Tangail for daily wear is a better buy than a heavy Katan you will wear twice.
