Sarees for Eid
ঈদের দিন লম্বা: সকালের নামাজ আর কোলাকুলি, দুপুরের গরম আর আত্মীয়ের বাড়ি, সন্ধ্যার দাওয়াত। একটা শাড়িতে হয় না — দুটোয় হয়। আর ঈদের আগের দশ দিন দেশের সব কুরিয়ার ভরা, তাই এই পাতার শেষ লাইনটাই আসল: আগে অর্ডার করুন।
Morning to afternoon· সকাল থেকে দুপুর
A cotton or half-silk in a fresh, festive colour — a Tangail with a good border, a cotton Jamdani with butis. Light enough for embraces and the first visits, dressed enough for the photograph at the door, and bearable through the heat of the afternoon.
Evening· সন্ধ্যা
The invitation out is where the Katan, the silk or the organza belongs — a deep colour with a woven border under lamps. A full Banarasi is wedding-scale and looks it at a dinner; a Katan with a zari border is the right weight.
Colour· রং
Eid has a mood rather than a rule, and the mood is fresh: pastels, white with a coloured border, mint, peach, sky, lilac by day; emerald, wine, sapphire by evening. Two sarees in one colour family let one blouse serve both.
Order early· আগে অর্ডার করুন
Two to three weeks before, especially outside Dhaka. The last ten days before Eid double every courier's load and book every tailor; a saree that arrives with a week to spare has time for its wash, its fall and its blouse.
Have it in hand 3 weeks ahead
Time for the first wash, the fall and pico, and a blouse. The bigger the day, the fuller the couriers and the tailors.

A half-silk in a festive colour can — light enough for morning, dressed enough for a family evening. For an invitation out, a second, richer saree is worth it.
কোরবানির ঈদে কি আলাদা? · Is Eid ul-Adha different?
The morning is busier and messier, so cotton and a colour that forgives; the evening is the same as any Eid.
ঈদের আগে ডেলিভারিতে কত দিন? · How long is delivery before Eid?
Longer than usual. Inside Dhaka a week is usually enough; outside it is not — order two to three weeks ahead.
