Yes. Jamdani is defined by how the motifs are woven — by hand, thread by thread — not by the fibre. In a half-silk Jamdani the warp is silk and the weft is cotton, which gives the cloth a soft sheen and a slightly firmer drape than all-cotton. Full silk Jamdani exists too.

What makes a piece not real Jamdani is a machine: a power-loom that repeats the motifs perfectly with a clean back, or a print. Turn the saree over — a hand-woven piece shows the short cut ends of the motif threads on the reverse, whatever the fibre.

Half-silk usually costs more than cotton for the same weaving, because of the yarn. It is the usual choice for a wedding guest; cotton is the one for daily wear and the one that softens most with washing.
