লুঙ্গি চারটে কাপড়ে আসে আর চারটের কাজ আলাদা। রোজকার আরাম সুতিতে, একটু সাজ বাটিকে, ঈদের সকাল সিল্ক-ব্লেন্ডে, আর তাঁতের চেক সবগুলোর মাঝখানে — টেকসই, ঠান্ডা, দেখতে ভালো।
Cotton check· সুতি চেক
The everyday lungi of the country: a yarn-dyed cotton woven in checks, on a power-loom or a handloom. Cool, absorbent, dries on the line in an hour, survives daily washing for years. A handloom check from Pabna or Sirajganj has a softer hand and a slight liveliness in the weave that a mill check does not; both are honest. Buy this first.
Batik· বাটিক
A plain cotton printed by wax-resist dyeing, so the pattern has the soft, veined look of batik rather than the hard edge of a screen print. It reads as smarter than a check without being formal, and it is the lungi for a walk, a visit, the evening at the bazaar. The dye settles after two or three washes; shade drying keeps it bright.
Silk-blend· সিল্ক-ব্লেন্ড
Cotton with a silk or art-silk component for sheen and a heavier fall. This is the Eid-morning lungi, the wedding-at-home lungi, the one that is given as a gift — worn a few times a year and washed gently by hand. It is warmer than cotton and less forgiving of a hard wash, and that is the trade for the way it looks.
Handloom from Pabna· পাবনার তাঁত
Pabna and the villages around it weave lungis on handlooms in checks and in plain colours with a woven border. The cloth is soft from the first day, cooler than a mill weave and better-looking with age, and it costs a little more for the weaver's time. If the everyday lungi is the one you wear most, this is the one to spend the difference on.

One: a cotton check for every day. Two: a silk-blend in a deep colour for Eid and guests. Three: a batik for the days between. Four: a handloom check to replace the first when it wears out, which will be a long time.
